Red Hawks junior footballers dropped a thriller 3-0 to Adam Scott Lions last Friday afternoon.
It was a game that they hadn't planned on playing.
Last Wednesday they learned they had squeaked into the Kawartha playoffs.
Coach Bruce Griffith said he had to call the boys back to the storage room to pick up their pads and helmets.
They had already been turned in.
So they practiced Thursday and slipped down the road to Adam Scott, and in charming fashion they proved that they not only belonged, but they darn near pulled off a Harry (Houdini) when a 70-yard run to paydirt had them in the lead.

Well, until the official went to his pocket for that ubiquitous red flag, nullifying the long gallop and TD by Connor Bird.
"We actually scored three times on the same drive, all by slotback Connor Bird, but all brought back on penalty flags," said Griffith.  "So, we had the win but beat ourselves!"
Some other factors came into play as well.
"Our star Louis Ferracuti got hurt with four minutes to play, and  this hurt our team as we have relied on him throughout the year," said Griffith. "Also unable to play was captain and two way player Larry Reynolds; Cooper Sherlock was brought off the injured list to play Tight End. The wind was a huge factor in the game as both defenses were strong causing lots of punting. They punted once into our endzone for a safety and then we were pinned on our 2 yard line because of wind and they tackled us in endzone for 2 pt safety.
"A great season for the junior squad and Coach Brad Tait and Coach Griffith are looking forward to next year."
Special props to coach Griff for this special report.
